Hi all.
How do you guys set out a diamond set floor with a square set border around the perimeter?
Would you lay the perimeter first and then cut the diamond inside or do the diamond set first and then work out the perimeter after?
Cheers
I lay the centre first so that you can end the diagonals on full and half tiles........ looks much neater than having uneven cuts.
You do usually need a cut on the outside. You need to put a full tile on each of the 4 corners and then centre between those tiles as you would for anything else. Not perfect, but you hardly notice the cuts as they are only around the outside - more than made up for by all of the cuts being equal in the main field. This is assuming that it is only a single tile around the edge. A large area outside the centre field and you can't really do it this way.Hi Mistral.
By doing it that way I can't see how you can get whole tiles around the diamond set for the square on border. I think it's more important to get whole tiles for the border but make sure you don't get any silly little triangles around the edge of the diamond set. I've been having a play around on the precision tile prog which was recommended by another tiler on this post and it works very well setting out this type of layout. I did try to get whole/half tile in the diamond to start with but then I couldn't get whole border tiles around the outside. O what fun!!
i think the border tile is more important than than getting half and full tiles, a lot of border tiles carry a pattern to them so to cut them would cut the pattern and look a bit wrong if you know what i mean.
I was talking about when the edge tiles are the same as the diagonal tiles...... not patterned.i think the border tile is more important than than getting half and full tiles, a lot of border tiles carry a pattern to them so to cut them would cut the pattern and look a bit wrong if you know what i mean.
