Discuss Kitchen tiling in the Specialist Tile -Stone, Porcelain, Glass area at TilersForums.com.

Hello
I have just moved into a house (built in 2003) and started to clear the kitchen, I have come across a black substrate which isn't level (maybe bitumen? picture attached). The floor tiles i am looking to put down are Fantasia Marble Satin 60cmx120cm x10mm thickness. approx 7m2.

I want to ensure the floor is prepped prior to tiling - can anyone recommend a course of action and products (self level compound, grout and adhesive). I have always been a fan of Mapei but you are the experts and will take your advice.

Also i have been given conflicting advice on whether I should be tiling prior to the units being installed (the kitchen units will be in a U shape, the tiles are being fitted 120 wide with only 10cm going under the units on each side).

look forward to any advice you can provide.

Mike
