Discuss Crazy gap between shower metal frame and tiled wall in the Tanking and Wetrooms area at TilersForums.com.

Hello and thanks for your time.
When the shower metal frame (that will hold the glass wall) is placed plumb along the tiled wall, you can see that the tiled wall is uneven. The top and bottom touches the tile wall but in the middle there is a huge 2cm gap between the metal and wall. Basically the wall is concave.
Apart from an incorrect tile job, Is there some kind of a trim, gasket, liner that can fill this unsightly gap so that it looks good and does not allow water to flow through?

You can use Silicon sealant, shower liner, or trim to fill the gap between the shower metal frame and the tiled wall. Make sure the gap is clean and dry before you start.

Cheers,
Emma
thanks for the reply. Can you point to what type of shower liner or trim you are referring to?

thats not an incorrect tile job thats an incorrect preparation job, looks like if the profile is screwed tight to the wall there is enough adjustment in the profile though so should be fine.
I could screw on the metal bracket tighter to the wall and help close the gap by half, but that would bend or bow the metal frame towards the wall by a little bit. Then the glass wall would slip in and do its thing to be level and plumb. Is that a good idea??

That’s what I would do as long as there is enough adjustment in the profile(so that there is enough space for the glass section to sit fully in). Silicon the screen into the profile too of course, and then a clear bead on the outside of the profile. Most screens have between 15-20mm adjustment for out of level walls. It’s a very common issue

Sounds good. The profile is a U channel extrusion that’s about 2 inch deep and about 3/4 in wide- like in the picture. The glass wall is supposed to fit in the U channel half way through, so approx 1in. There are two plastic gasket strips that also fit into the left and right of the glass as it inserts into the profile, to help seal and lock it in. The glass should rest well in that channel- the bottom might fit in at 1.25in and the top at 0.75in for the glass wall to be level and plumb. What about white Silicon to close the remaining gap between wall and profile?
