    floor tiles running parallel?

Hello again, I thought I'd just update you on this thread and our kitchen and hallway floor. We got a recommended tiler in last week who has done a fantastic job. He and his colleague had a right chuckle at the photos of the previous cowboyed job and they couldn't believe how bad it was. The...

    Please Help a Frustrated DIYer

I ripped all my old kitchen back splash last year, put in some new bits of plaster board where needed to get the surface nice for re-tiling again and got myself some nice tiles, an electric wet tile cutter, adhesive and grout, spacers and a float, sponge la de da. And I spent many hours on here...

Dot & Dabbed Porcelain tiles - job in progress

Some really interesting info there, Gary particularly the bit about going to a local tile supplier for a recommendation, never thought of that. May be a good idea to have a sticky section on this forum for Joe Public looking for some starting points like that, like a basic checklist -...

Dot & Dabbed Porcelain tiles - job in progress

re: Dot & Dabbed Porceliain tiles - job in progress Sorry to read this thread - incredibly similar to the fiasco that took place in our house last weekend, as reported and documented on this forum. I'd seen enough after 3 hours and sent him packing. Thankfully, we hadn't paid him, but we lost...

    floor tiles running parallel?

I don't know what brand of adhesive he used - somebody asked earlier on up the thread, but it's concrete-based by the smell of it. Most of it has come up, but there still a few bits that will be a work in progress until we can get somebody else in. In total, he used almost 7 packs of tiles, a...

    floor tiles running parallel?

Thanks so much you guys. I told him take your tools and that's the end of it, and that I was really annoyed. No arguments, thankfully, and even better, no money handed over. Tiles are all up now most of the softer adhesive lifted easily, still scraping the other half-set stuff up. Bit of a...

    floor tiles running parallel?

ok, last pic. this one shows the back passage section which is very rectangular leading off from the kitchen to the back door. Just rang the bloke, told him I'm not happy and I'm gonna lift them now before the adhesive sets. Thanks for all the replies.

    floor tiles running parallel?

Ok, thanks. The kitchen is only narrow, but there are no apparent angles and a quick tape measure confirms there's nothing more than a couple of mils, if anything. We've asked for the tiles to go through to the adjoining back passage area to the door, (first pic on left). This back area is also...

    floor tiles running parallel?

Hi there, I've got a tiler in at the moment working on the floor. Came back couple of hours later and three quarters of the tiles are down but the tiles don't seem to be in alignment with anything such as the walls, kitchen units etc - i.e, the width of the tiles seem to taper down towards the...

    Kitchen backsplash

I'm planning on using 150mm x 150mm tiles, the standard square size. How long do you usually leave between tiling and grouting? I read somewhere that ready made combined cement/grout can be quite thick and make grouting harder work and that it's favourable to mix your own grout. Is that right?

    Kitchen backsplash

Hi there, I'm renovating my kitchen on a budget and have just removed the tiles from behind the kitchen work surfaces and around the windows. My plan is to re tile it myself. The tiles were only four high. I was dreading the damage, but 90% of the tiles came off without a fight. There were a few...
