Large format rectified polished porcelain with no Grout in a shower?

I'm done. I redguarded the durock, and got to work. The floor with 2x2s came out perfect, but I'm not too proud of the walls. The first tile I set was 1/2 inch off the center of the back wall, then I continued straight up to the ceiling and went to lunch. Came back 30 minutes later and noticed...

    shower floor 2x2 mosaics

THANKS EVERYONE!!! I should have some wiggle room at the walls since fat 12x24's are going on the wall with 1/2" trowel and back butter. I'd rather have the drain look good than worry about full 2" tile at the wall......I think?

    shower floor 2x2 mosaics

Hi All, have a square drain cover in the center of a 3'x4' stall. Could the setting be started at the drain and work out to the walls? I just wanted full tiles around the square drain cover.

    Outside corners

Thank you Tony, I will try again. I also found some bull nosed tiles that will look very close. They all will be on a different plane than the rest, just around the door jamb so only about an inch will be inside the door. I will have to buy one more box of the wall tile to mitre if I go that...

    Outside corners

My cheap MK saw's table does angle up to mitre but it doesn't leave a great finish on the one piece I tried. It seems to chip more when the tile is cut finished side down. I can buy bullnose in a different tile that may look ok since they would only be the door jams and extend inside the door...

    Outside corners

Is it okay to butt corners if no trim is available? It seems a miter would be too sharp.

Large format rectified polished porcelain with no Grout in a shower?

I'm starting!!! This will be my first attempt at preparing and tiling a small stall. It's my own place that's sitting there not being used so I started to fix it up on my spare time. Our local code does not require the types of testing you mention though I would like to try it anyways. It's not...

If the ceiling was to be done, do you tile that before the walls?

When you say "tank" the shower, that means the ceiling as well? Should that be set first?

I agree, some bathrooms here are just too much. I call it Italian style even though I'm half Italian. Also, 80% of the homes here don't even have one piece of tile in their home. Linoleum, shower and tub inserts, carpet, etc. Good enough I guess.

That stuff looks beautiful. I also like the minimalist design. When they want different tiles put in between which everyone over here loves, It starts to get gawdy looking. Good job!

Looks awesome, is that travertine? Do you grout all the pits and holes so it can be cleaned?

Large format rectified polished porcelain with no Grout in a shower?

Okay thanks, I guess the more random you make it, the better it looks. Its tough with such large tile in such a small area. More waste also.

Large format rectified polished porcelain with no Grout in a shower?

If I start with full tile in centre and use the piece left from the top cut, this is how it would look, correct? Too symmetrical ?

Large format rectified polished porcelain with no Grout in a shower?

If I see it correctly, no butt joints end up in the center of a full piece next to it.

Large format rectified polished porcelain with no Grout in a shower?

Thanks Dan, I maybe getting ahead of myself but as far as the pattern, if I use the same size they want in their stall, 12x24, vertical, is there a standard setting pattern? Starting with a full tile in the center bottom of the back wall leaves about 1/3rd a tile at top. Should i use a 2/3rds...

Large format rectified polished porcelain with no Grout in a shower?

I've decided to try a shower job on my own place first. Then make a decision to do my neighbor's or not. I have a small camp on my property that will be good practice and has almost the same situation as the people I caretake for. I'll keep my progress posted when possible.

using MBP in place of Redguard?

Thanks Albert, I thought so too, also the MBP is almost a year old. I'll just throw it away.

using MBP in place of Redguard?

I have a pail of MBP bonding primer that I decided not use over a smooth surface. I instead covered the surface with Wunderboard. Does the MBP(multisurface bonding primer) waterproof the substrate as Redguard would? Or should I spend the $45 for the Redguard?
