Hi guys
just starting 1st job, 14sqms, floor has had the original vinyl tiles removed, leaving the black adhesive firmly stuck to screeded floor, floor level is running out about 12mm in places. will it be possible to to use SBR bond directly onto floor before covering with a self levelling compound? or is there an easier and quicker solution.

If the floor is sloping out 12mm you don't need to level that. If the floor has naturally sloped due to the building sinking or moving or something then you could find raising it at one end 12mm will make everything else off, like doors, window walls can look out and all sorts.

You're just aiming to get the beast flat. And I'm guessing if it's had vinyl tiles down then it is pretty much flat as those show up dips and bumps more so than tile does.

Perhaps a single part adhesive will do? I'll let the guys answer that one. I'm not a tiler. 🙂

Thanks Dan

you are right about vinyl tiles be flat, but on closer inspection with a level the floor has dips (some at least 10mm in places) , the centre of the room has a 12mm high point.

That sounds like a nasty floor to me mate, my recommendation would be to knock out the high points, fill all the really deep holes with rapid set, then think about a leveller. If there are 12mm high spots and 10mm drops then your gonna use about 20 bags of leveller if you don't do some patch work first. If you do choose to just level the floor without taking out high points etc then make sure the leveller you use can be spread that thick, most will require grnite chippings to thicken the mixture. Good luck mate, sounds like a nightmare and to be honest if it is really bad it may be worth suggesting to the customer to have it screeded.

Cheers Varley

Dont think i could have picked a worse floor as this to start with! but there you go.i will chisel high points first then fill other low points with rapidset, see how it goes.

thanks m8:thumbsup:
