1st Mosaic floor

Hi Guys, I'm just about to lay my 1st mosaic floor, and it's looking a little tricky.. They might not be as hard as i'm thinking, probably just panicking a little lol!
The floor is old (but sound) floor boards, which i'm going to overlay with 18mm ply, as i want it as rigid and flat as i can possibly get it hehe! The Mosaics are small hexagonal glass tiles. They are mostly white, but with a black border around the room, and i'm having trouble visualizing how i should set the floor out!?! What's the best starting point? The black border will be about 3" inside the edges.

Hi scott, I would treat this job the way i would a geometric floor. Centre focal points etc, the 3" variable sounds about right

Bathroom floor, about 2 metres. Do you see a potential problem?

Maybe John was wondering if that glas mosaic was suitable for floors... some are only advised for walls, as they are pretty thin and flimsy... but no good second guessing John I guess...

They are pretty thin, but they were sold for floor tiling. The customer even had a picture of them on a floor, that showed how they wanted them. I'd better double check that they were glass, as i must admit, i only had a cursory look at them the other day... I'm almost certain they were, but you've got me wondering now!?! :smilewinkgrin:

If they were sold for floors I reckon that should be ok - what adhesive are you using? It's that that must absorb the impact, make sure coverage is really perfect and dead level

I was planning on using Weber Flexi Rapid set, as it's what i always use on floors. Would you recommend something else for Mosaics?

Some English tiles are sold as 'floor tiles' and on enquiry I found their usage as light foot traffic with no shoes! Even in a bathroom my customer decided to change specification.
If it is glass it could be prone to scratching with heels.
Webber fast set flexi - white - will be fine for te mosaics.

Grouting aswell may cause issues. Some floor grouts can scratch glass tiles.
