Hi all,

Well it's been all of 2 weeks since I popped out of the BAL course at Bristol and working on the basis of small acorns make big trees I have quoted(estimated actually) on a re-gout and Silicon shower room floor and retile a 50x70 flat panel at the end of the bath and been asked to do the work. Now i know i am a lovely chap:grin: but can I just run this one by you good folks to make sure I havn't done myself?

2 Sq/m 50cmx50cm travertine tiles , remove grout, re-grout with coloured wide joint grout and admix for flexibility, remove old Silicon and re-do with Microban Silicon. I have agreed £170 incl mats and £90.00 to do the little panel total £260.00 (customer pays for the tiles on the panel as they havn't decided what they want yet). As its travertine I know that i will need to seal the edges even though its matching grout colour but any other tips that might spring to mind would be very helpful.

The nice thing is there is the possibility of doing quite a bit more work for this customer but I don't want to undersell myself just for the sake of it.

Oh yes and I will be using BAL stuff! and YES....I was Sh**ting myself walking up to the front door for the first time:yes:

Cheers all

I dredded my first quotes and jobs but it gets easier have fun the lads on here are great..!

Seal the edges???? Seal everything mate, with trav you may want to do it twice before grouting then once more after as its such a porus stone.
The price seems good though

Great news and lets hope it continues. How did you find your BAL course as I am considering where to complete a course and I have a BAL training centre (Stoke on Trent) about six miles away.

thanks guys...helps if i read my post before posting! I meant seal the edges and the tiles thoroughly. Interestingly it was obvious(to me) that this hadn't been done very well as some of the area around the drain is quite water stained...I assume I will be able to clean this up before sealing? Thanks for the advice on the softness...the grout is actually cracking a bit(shrinkage?) and a bit crumbly so I think wasn't mixed correctly or not wide joint used in 1st place (gaps are 7mm). I'm going to use Microcolour wide joint with admix. For myself and having been reading on here pretty much daily for the past 12months, I found that the BAL course really brought things together...it is not an in depth course on tiling (impossible as it's a 5 day course) but a very good foundation on the basics of correct ady/grout selection, substrate id, use of hand and power tools and hands on tiling from day one.I personally found it spot on. For me, doing IS learning and even though I was nervous, I couldn't wait to get my first job.
