I have been blessed to meet a very nice guy along my journey to become a tiler. He has given me one job previously and was impressed with my work.

So today I received a phone call from him asking me to help him with it.

Situation is that the customer is supplying all the tiles and materials. We are there to basically lay the bugger and thats it.

Mr X told me he has a price in mind yet he didnt say. He just wanted to know how much I want per m2.

Im not sure what to say to be frank. I know the job will be a tenner a day there and back in fuel. I dont know whether I should ask him what he will be putting in for his price? I need this job so what do you reckon ?

I will say this, he is only charging the bloke 18m2. discuss.
If you do it for this you will earn peanuts, you need to know the size of the tile, is there a pattern to follow, how much sealant will the tiles need, if very porous you could end up giving them 4 coats. There is a lot more work to fixing natural stone! I think you need to find out more before you commit yourself. :punk:

Well he is going to ring me tomorrow after speaking to the bloke, I do have a barrage of questions to give him once he rings me regarding issues such as sealing and patterns. I know that he did lay the floor previously (not long ago) and is ripping all the porcelain up and is probably going off that price.

Though as with most things, the current climate may force me to take it ! I dont want to seem forward, cheeky etc if I say something like ya working for half what the rest of the country is when working with limestone.

first of all find out wat stone it is and think how much you need the work obviously some stone is harder to lay than other i defo wouldnt do it for 18 but id consider £25 and bit extra for sealing as long as its a square room with nothin init think about it quite abit of money to be made on this one

obviously the price wil go on what the surface is like, the tile, patterns, any difficult cuts etc

You say he's asked you to help him with it, so i assume you're helping him to lay the tiles, not doing the whole job yourself? As it's good experience, and he's done you favours in the past etc... I'd do it for a fairly cheap day rate, providing your not putting off better paying work to do it. That way, you know what you're getting.
