I've finished tiling a utility room and the instructions on the adhesive say to leave the job for 28 days before turning on the UFH back on. Needless to say I am eager to get the haeting back on as the house is bloody freezing. The utility room is on an open zone, so no thermostat, so while I can bring the heat back slowly in other rooms it does get pretty warm in the utility.

I'm just wondering why the long time before getting the heat on, and if I do it within a week or so will horrible things happen to the floor!

Any advice much appreciated.

I can check the brand, think it was Bostik white flexible suitable for UFH.

was just wandering because any time i do a floor with UFH i use bal flexi, mainly because of its 25 year guarentee(otherwise mainly toppfix) and was checking instructions for UFH but it doesn't state how long it should be left before turning it on! will check this up!

u/floor heating isnt a source of heating the house ,it will just make your floor warm for walking

underfloor heating CAN be used as a primary heat source and in majority of cases 160w/m2 (internal room) and 200w/m2 (conservatories) in conjunction with Insulation boards will be enough to do this.

To be certain you should ensure a heat loss calculation is done in the room(s) before fitting/ordering.

I've been onto the importer (Evo Stick) of the Bostic White flexi, 28 days is the advice to allow everything to dry and not shock the tiles. However as it is rapid setting she implied I wouldn't be the first to ignore the advice if a switched the heating on earlier as it is often not practical. I'll give it one more week and then bring it up slowly.

I am sure the adhesive manufactures are being 'safe rather than sorry'
Obviously, just becareful as if anything goes wrong and you have not followed the instructions properly.......i am sure you can guess what they will say!!

You may also find that if the adhesive has not dried properly that the heat transfers through the floor at different rates giving the feeling of hot/cold spots on the floor. This will generally rectify its self if you leave the system on fully for 24/48 hrs.
