Adhesive ?

Hi All

Can anyone give me a quick reminder on best Adhesive to go straight onto 12mm plasterboard
started to refurb nephews bathroom last year but it got put on hold, now hes back on his feet
its time to start again, his tiles are 300mm, also before i start tiling do i need to apply any type
of bond to the board before applying tiles, obviously with it being the bathroom i want to make
sure i use the right stuff and get a good adhesive and apply a good grout afterwords to get a
watertight seal.

soz, hes got a shower/bath..as for the tiles hes bought 300mm stone effect wall tiles suitable for barthrooms, all
walls have been dot dabbed with 12 mill normal pb, lad wants to save as much pennies as poss, so any tips to
help the lad will be appreciated.

The best way to save money is to do it right first time and not skimp on materials/methods.

yet another logical answer, if the lad had the money to get aquaboard etc, he would've done it..the simple question his
can we put the tiles direct to the pb if using a good brand ready mix ?

Forget the ready mix and go for a good powdered adhesive.....

Cement based addy (wont cost any more),and a tanking kit is recommended for the shower area.:smilewinkgrin:

ok cement based addy will mean priming the board yes ?, and a tanking kit for the shower end of bath ?

It's whats available in your area, I like Tilemaster but Mapei are also a good brand.....

with the tanking kit, can tiles be stuck direct to membrane or will that need bonding too ?

use a mapei or bal tanking kit, all instructions on how to use it are in the kit, use a cement based adhesive, I prefer to go with the same make as the tanking so bal tanking, bal adhesive etc......normally you would prime walls, tank the walls wait for it to dry then tile, the kit comes with the primer..

So plan of action is prime non bath shower walls with an acrylic bond, powder adhesive, then on bath shower walls tanking kit then tile
never used powder before so roughly how long would a batch of powder need to be applied...dont want it setting before i get tiles on..haha

use a slow set adhesive that will give you plenty of time 8 hours ..plus, another hint if your using a light colour grout go for white adhesive..

Mapei Adesliex P9 has a pot life of just about all day. Use with Mapei Primer G plus their tanking kit which in my opinion has a superior sealing/corner tape than the BAL version.

What about mapei keraflex ?, just been looking on screwfix site and they've got that and a tanking kit it's only up rd from us

Thanks for your help Rookery, started putting tiles on today dont look bad...first time ive used cement based addy
glad its only a small bag..:smiley2:...thanks again
