I think I am right in saying that BAL is the industry leading tile adhesive. It is the gold standard of adhesives although there are many other very good and cheaper adhesives out there.... Ardex Granfix Dunlop Mapei to name but a few. Never heard of sovereign but if whitebeam uses it it must be good !

Ardex and Mapei may dispute your statement about BAL being the leading producer, and Ardex is no cheaper than BAL in general, in my area at least.

In answer to your question Cutmore, I have never used sovereign but I have used BAL and Ardex adhesives and they are both excellent products. Pricing I think differs depending where you are. I can get BAL rapidset for £13.75+vat or Rapidset flexy for £22.90+vat if that is any help to you.

Hi grumpy I'm off to Ardex next month very excited about learning more about their products.I have no doubt of its quality but Bal seems to be the one that everybody has heard of and everybody has used and it came top of the poll. I can't get hold of Ardex or Mapei very easily in my area so haven't got price lists for comparison was just thinking there can't be any that are as -or more expensive than Bal (well was hoping that was the case anyway) Having read the spec on all Ardex leveling compounds (I need to get some work lol) I am very impressed and would be more likely to choose them over Bal simply because they seem more versatile in terms of the depth you can go with them in a single application. I bow to your superior knowledge though Grumps and I wish I could get hold of Bal that cheaply lol cos it ain't that cheap in my area.
