advice needed on products

hi all
this is a really stupid question and one that i kind of already know the answer to.... but here goes.
had a phone call to quote on a bathroom floor but unfortunately the floor is chipboard. explained to the customer that chipboard is not a good surface to fix tiles to and we should replace with 22mm marine ply or at the very least overboard the existing floor....sadly the customer is adament that they do not want to replace it or alter the height. i have a feeling that i am going to have to pass on this job unless any of you guys/girls know of any products which can be used with chipboard. sorry to sound like a pain but i have to be 100% certain that it can be done because they also have a extension which will be finished in 10 days which will have an en-suite which is bigger than the bathroom and would like me to tile that so need the product to be 100%...because
A) i take pride in my work and care about my reputation.
B) i need the money as business is quiet.

thanks all for any help but i will pass on the job if no product is good enough to do the job. no point in taking the money just to give it back if it doesnt work and ruin my rep.

cheers chris

If you have to do it, check out Ardex 7001 and prime the floor with P51 primer first. You would probbaly find that Mapei Keraquick with lates plus will do a good job too. make sure the boards are solidly fixed with screws to the joists first and if there is deflection then think twice about doing it. I am assuming it is not too big an area so you should be fine. Flexy grout as well, obviously. You could also use BAL Fastflex too but I hate the stuff with a passion!!!

I'm sure this was one of Grumpy's tips......

Place a full glass of water in the middle of the floor. Walk and "bounce" on the floor, if the water spills you must strengthen (or at least eliminate the deflection). If the water remains in the glass, then either use Ardex 7001, Mapei Keraquick with Latex Plus or BAL Fastflex to tile with. Check the packs for details regarding priming.

Sorry Russ, just repeated what you've already said .

no the area is only 3sqm and no real deflection customer proved this by jumping up and down on it (big chap say about 18 stone) no squeaks to be heard.
