advice needed on tile waste calculation

Depends what area you're talking about. If 5m2 then 3% might not even be a whole tile, LOL. Also, what sort of layout, what sort of obstructions, are you going to be able to use both cuts for edges from the same tile etc, etc. I always say 10%, then if there are tiles over the customer has them as spares. But on a 150m2 job, 10% might be rather a lot...

10% as a general rule of thumb, sometimes 20% on larger format tiles, such as 1000x300mm.

have contract from april, big house. few bathrooms 100x100x10 marble tiles. Added 3% for waste. And about 100 sq.m floor 600x600 tiles, added 5%

10 to 15% depending on the tile and the way its layed. If the tile shop refunds excess tiles then more is better than less. theres nothing annoying the most than being a tile short of a bathroom.
A bit like a sandwich short of a picnic.:lol:

Tony, I don't think your waste calculation is enough especially on the 600x600's, lets say for arguments sake that the cut into one wall is a 3/4 tile, that means for every 4 tiles you lay you are essentially throwing one away, I think you will need to get a minimum of 10% so as not to compromise setting out. Better to have a box left over than trying to find a box that's the same batch.

10%.....most tile shops take back full boxs, rest you keep as spares, nowt worse that running out, have to reorder more tiles, different shades,..... nightmare..

Always 10%. 15% if the tiles are set at 45 degrees. Think of all those cracked marbles....

10% and some times an extra box ontop for larger tiles. Make sure the supplier will take the tiles you dont need back.

10-15% depending on tile size. If any left over can be used in the event of any potential breakages in future, cos when they go back to the tile shop 2 years later they're discontinued.

I always say, 'its better to be able to see them than have to go looking for them'

I agree with the majority here 10% minimum. I haven't found a tile store around me that won't take a full box back. So more the better, at least then you guarantee the same batch codes and no colour and tone difference.

for me,best to always allow 10% no matter what the tile.As others say rather have abox left than one tile short.

Tony, it's a given that you don't make any bad cuts or break any tiles.

The 10% extra is merely to cover the eventuality that some of the tiles come out of the crate with chipped edges or other belmishes (rust spots, LOL) which mean you can't use the tile.

The further east the stone is sourced, the higher the wastage %. For Chinese stone a reasonable figure is 217% :yesnod:
