Advice needed please guys

hi guys, been to price a job for a client to tile 10 m2 on to green chip board, the customer has take my advice but 2 other tilers have given her other infomation which in my opinion, is wrong

No way in million years would I tile on to any chipboard! How is the floor any deflection?

the floor is part of an old outhouse that has been risen to meet the existing house useing wooden joists

I'd it's deflection free (important bit), then overboard it with a 6mm cement board stuck and screwed every 200mm

Make sure no bounce etc again and over boarding needed here as the green chipboard is a no no.

I have just priced a job today, two bathroom walls & floors. Customer wanted me to also price for a hallway, utility room and downstairs cloaks, after finding out this was a floating floor I have declined the floor, I will probably loose the job because of this. I would never tile directly to chipboard. Good luck

more a question than advice but if the chip board were removed could you use hardibacker type board instead or will it not support loads in that way??? just that I got to redo my bathroom soon and that is what would be easiest for me to do

Hi there,never ever tile onto chipboard,the adhesive is not designed to adhere to chipboard,
its designed to adhere to plywood,as it says on the side of the sack.

over board with hardie 6 mm glued and screwed 6 inch centres tiling directly onto hipboard is a big no no

Best bet is to remove chipboard replace with wp ply then overlay with 6mm c/s screwed and glued with staggered joints

even if you remove and replace with say 19 mm c/s the joins can cause an issue and need special treatment

thanks guys, the customer has read the post and finally given me the job , i told them you cant tile on to chipboard , but 2 yes 2 tilers and a tile shop said you could so they doubted what i said. i told them to log on to the forum and read the post, as the 2 tilers and the tile shop were wrong lol
