Hi, I had a new travertine bathroom and shower room installed last year and a lot of black mould has built up behind the (transparent) Silicon where the tiles meet the shower tray and the bath in the showering area. I have unsuccessfully had a go at removing some of the Silicon but it is stubborn. Please can somebody advise me, my lovely rooms are looking awful :( We do squeegee after showering but the mould is mainly behind the sealant anyway. I know I can't use chemical Silicon remover and bleach as I would on ceramic ( wishing I had never chosen stone ) and I am at a loss as to what I need to do! I cant see how to upload photos from my ipad, if I can send a photo to an email address that would be OK. I did post on the FB page yesterday. Thanks in advance, Vanessa

Re: Advice needed regarding replacing mouldy Silicon seal on traverti

I have posted a couple of photos now, they haven't appeared but it says. Thank you for posting! Your post will not be visible until a moderator has approved it for posting, so they will hopefully appear in a bit. Once I know how to strip back the Silicon, I need to know how to clean away the mould . I was considering steam clean the whole area if cant use chemical, does anyone know if this would be OK? Then how to prepare tile for new Silicon seal to make sure it is water-tight this time. I have some unibond anti-mould one- is this n OK make or would you guys recommend something better? Sorry for lots of questions, I just want to get it right!

This looks like one of those dopey shower trays that has no fall on it,whoever designs these things needs a good talking to.
once you have taken out the old Silicon and cleaned off the mould either by steam or chemical allow to dry.The Silicon you have should be ok all though some brands have a 10yr warranty. Before siliconing take a stanley knife and clean out any debri between the tile gap and the shower tray.Use a proper Silicon tool like a rubber finger to smooth the Silicon and make sure you fill the gap dont use your own finger only the tool dipped in water.
