Hello to all,

I am need some advice on the following :

Bathroom floor area 6' x 6' level Floorboards.

Can I use plywood to prep floor area prior to tileing.

Three walls are already tiled, trying to remove these tiles is destroying the plasterboard beneath
which will probably lead to replastering.

The existing tiles have a gloss finish and measure 105mm x 105mm, the new tiles are 300mm x 400mm.

Can I tile over the existing tiles as they appear to be securely fixed and if so do I need to prep their surface with anything.

Thanks In Advance.

I would overboard your floor with hardiebacker, glued & screwed/nailed. Make sure your floor is solid & deflection (Bounce) free.

I wouldnt tile over tile, although they may look securely fixed, its not good practice.

If your walls are plasterboard then just pull them down & put new sheets back on, its not a hard job as your stud work is already there.

You will get plasterboard for less than £10 a sheet.

Also have a browse through the forum for "Tanking your wet areas".

Hope this helps.

You will find it easier and quicker to remove the plasterboard with tiles on rather than removing the tiles from the plasterboard. New board is cheap, easy enough to fix and better for tiling on. Before you remove the board run a Stanley knife around the top of the walls where they join the ceiling as they are joined by scrim tape

From the original post I thought you were the customer!
If you are asking the basic questions for tiling preparation, then do you have sufficient knowledge to undertake the job?
Although I freely give advice to DIY, if you intend to charge someone without the basic understanding of my trade then unfortunately I would be unwilling to help.
The only advice I could give is - allow a competent tiler to do the job and you watch - that way you can learn 'on the job'.
