just completed my first tiling diy project , 600x300 procelain floor tiles (30sqm) using bal rapidset
about to startr tiling the walls of my downstairs toilet with 400x200 cereamic tiles
i bought bal white star for the job but i am starting to wonder after looking on here if the tiles are too big for tubbed gear
the reason i got the tub gear was that when mixing the rapidset for the floor , i mixed it until the addy slowly slipped off the trowel , but it seemed to me that a wall tile would slowly slip down the wall until it sets

i realise that i could tile upwards using the tiles below as support , but arnt you supposed to start in the middle of the wall and work out both ways?
any help/advise would be greatly appreciated
regards
Mark

centre your walls, make a marking out stick (staff) = a length of wood lay your tiles along the length putting your spacers in between, then make marks on the wood at both sides of each tile, remove the tiles and there you have your staff, mark from the centre down,to your last full tile, then nail battens along that mark, then set your walls out horozontally and start tiling, personally i would have used a powdered addy mate.Hope i have explained this so you can understand it

so i batten horizontaly at every tile row , or you mean one batten at bottom row/second last bottom?

yes mate,it would be far easier for you if you fixed a batten to the wall at the bottom height of your last full tile, that way you can tile to ceiling height, then when addy is set just take the batten away and put in your cut tiles

sorry i am not very good at explaining things in writing

Did it slip, or do you believe it would slip? Modern adhesives meant for wall tiling are often what's called highly tixotropical, which means they flow fairly easily when disturbed, but become stiff to the consistency when left alone. That translates into little or no slippage. In fact, most of those are actually more effective when mixed to a more paste like consistency, as opposed to a rather stiff consistency.

If you look at BAL Adhesives - Products - single part flexible, notice the "T" in the bit that says:
C2TE Tile Adhesive for Walls and Floors

The T stands for tixotropical. 20x40 ceramics will probably "hang" when fixed using a good T classed adhesive. I've fixed larger tiles than that without having had slippage, but it depends on the adhesive.

Otherwise, just use battens.
