Advice on method my tiler has used

I have employed a plumber to fit a new bathroom suite and retileHowever the method he has used is different to what I believe to be correct. Instead of spreading the adhesive in a combed screed horizontally, he has applied large 'blobs' to each tile which has meant that all the tiles are spaced away from the wall? This has meant that there is a bit of unevenness. Also he hasn't started at the centre line of the Walls and worked outwards He has fitted a travertine border strip fixed back from the surface of the main tiles saying that he can't space them out- has anyone used this method of applying adhesive? As he says this is how he was taught to do it years ago and has done loads of bathrooms

Hi and welcome..

It's not a recommended way of fixing tiles that should be used, the border strip should be flush with the main tiles..

I would be calling your tiler back personally or invite him on here for some advise...

Was it powdered adhesive or tubbed gear that he used and what was your wall background...what tiles were fixed.

As above.... This isn't the recommended fixing method. Don't let him fix anymore and voice your concerns as this doesn't meet minimum British standards!

You will have weak joints etc where no adhesive is behind the joint !
Try going around tapping your tiles and see how many hollow sounds you get.
Get him out asap and get the job done properly.

Yep as above. Get a tiler instead of a plumber who thinks he can.
I cook my dinner but I ain't no chef!
Plumber plumb, Joiners join, plasterers plaster..

...& tilers tile.

DOT AND DAB!!!! I think the yanks call that the 5 point fixing method(deluded). :mad2:
it is just unacceptable to any tiler to use that method.
shocking, people(plumbers.) still do that it is pure lazyness.

get a tiler in there will be some pro in your area on here happy to help.

Theres your mistake. I'm afraid it will all have to come off

:lol: It's not a problem for me Paul, I'm currently getting at least one call a week to repair jobs that plumbers have had a go at.

As everyone has said, he hasn't got a clue and it needs doing correctly!
