Advice Please...

A customer of mine has asked me for a quote on doing her bathroom. Now she lives in an old cottage and the bathroon is in the roof space. This means that the wall that the bath is up against goes up from the bath by 700mm then pitches in towards the centre of the room. So you can't stand up straight in the bath.

As I have never tiled on a sloping wall/ceiling :yikes: is there anything I need to know before giving her a quote for the work. As my local material supplier only supplies Granfix adhesive and Bal could some advise me on the type of adhesive needed for the tiles on the sloping wall/ceiling. The tiles she is looking at are 4" ceramic 3-4 colours with a random pattern.

Any hint's, tips or advise gratefully received.....

Being an old cottage I would be more worried about the substrate, is it the old style lats and plaster ? If not, what is it ? getting tiles fixed ain't the problem, it's keeping them up there

Hi Alan. It's going to be re-plastered as the existing tiles need to come of and the wall/ceiling will need skimming. The end wall is brick but the other wall next to the bath is plasterboard.

it ain't going to be cheap 4" tiles! would defo add extras on for cutting to a slope(there's going to be a lot of cut's with 4" tiles)

as befoe though,normal flexi adhesives and grouts,all you need to work out is the extra time it will take to do the cutting and charge an according day rate

Isn't plaster boarding an all round option, saves on drying time and is a stronger substrate to fix to, fixing of board dependant of course.

No, I did mention this and explained the benifits but the customers response was the it wasn't tanked last time and things were ok!!

Yes it would but the customer knows a plasterer who offered to do the plastering for her.
