i think maybe water resistant chipboard ? normal chipboard is better but you cant change now mate i would personally stick backerboard i like the PCI one but they all do the same thing with PCI timber-flex or Bal fastflex then tile on top after you have screwed the chipboard to the joists some would tile on the chipboard but i think you can sometimes still get to much defection Regards Pete

If you are really tight for room to ply out, you will get away with BAL Fastflex straight down, or Ardex 7001 (my preferred choice, single part and cheaper as well) as long as the boards are securely screwed down at most at 300mm centres, closer if possible and there is little movement in the floor. It is the movement that is the killer, not so much the chipboard!

i would agree with grumpy but to be sure put the screws closer on the joists lines, that is if its chipboard because the rest of the board will have nothing
under to screw to but if your putting down backerboard id fix with flexi adhesive
and still screw down about 300mm centres, but personally i would put down backerboard to be safe, hope this helps. sid
