Morning everyone

I seem to be in a bit of a situation at the current site I'm working on and would like some advice. This job was given 2 months to complete, but have actually spent almost 2 months on and off the site due to too many people wanting to get into the rooms I'm supposedly working in.

Could anyone give me some advice regarding any action I could take with this has having lost out to 2 months work is really taking the biscuit.

2 weeks ago i went in and couldnt work because they had builders on the floor i needed to get to, so I said I would return in 2 weeks time to continue where i had left off. Returning two weeks later only to find that other trades have take the builders place has meant that ive had to give them yet another 2 weeks to sort themselves out. This is the kind of working environment ive got to deal with - very frustrating.

I am putting together my costs and losses in a document that i want to hand to the site manager but i am wondering how much I could "fine" them or whether or not i have the right to.

We have also agreed to give night shifts a go as it seems the only option for me to get work done - what is the rate for night work? I've never done this and am thinking double time is the way to go.

any help advice much appreciated guys and gals.

Thanks

thats how it goes sometimes with floors, i would put my foot down and have it out with the site agent, or walk away and put it down to experience. at times on new builds i have barricaded myself in a bathroom with tiles piled against the door to stop anyone coming in, its dog eat dog, and to be fair its bad site management that has caused it, what gets me is that you get delayed but the finish date never changes, you just have a lot less time to get it finished. if you have something else to go to, i would go.

double london rates for nights would be a good rate, if you can get it.

As said above it's always the tiler that has to give way.
It is bad management from the site agent but I would just tell other trades tough this area is shut off till I'm done.
I thought I was going to have to go onto night shift on my last job as I had almost the whole down stairs to tile, luckily I didn't have to but I had to put my foot down & tell peeps that no one was coming into my area!!!

Why is it always us that have to give way right?! And what gets me is like you said, the deadline never changes regardless of the hold ups.

Well, I've had a meeting with the site manager and looks like the night option is the only way its going to work so I'll just have to bite the bullet and work nights and charge them extra - my main worry about this is that while im not on site during the day - god knows what'll happen to the tiles ive laid. Not doubt more chips that ill need to fix.

Thanks for the feeling my pain guys - ill keep you updated with how it goes.
