Am I charging correctly?

so I’ve worked under my old man for about 6/7 years now on and off, in that time I’ve become competent enough to be left on the job and get on with my day, problem is I’m starting to doubt if my day rate is actually decent or not. I’m now self employed, own van, tools etc solely working on a renovation projects for apartments through my old man he’s passed on to me. I’m doing the strip out, dry lining, all plumbing first fix and second fix, I’m currently on £100 a day but I’m starting to lose motive with it. Simply because I’m starting to see it as slave labour for the work I’m producing. I’ll attach a couple of the apartments I’ve done. Feedback would be great as I’m always doubting the quality of work I put out due to the rate I’m being paid. Cheers..

I would say you definetly under pricing yourself , I’ve had a few quotes and prices have varied massively, wish you lived near me, I’ve had so much conflicting advice it’s like jackonary😆 but serious though what did you dad used to charge, I think it’s good that you do a little bit of plumbing I prefer to get someone who does both but they just dedicated tilers

My old mans day rate is 225 I want to say, but he’s gas safe, does plastering, electrics etc. Think the only think he doesn’t do is carpeting😂

I can do pretty much everything apart from electrics and plastering, I’ve been meaning to skim my own bedroom out to see if it’s something I can competently do but I just haven’t found the time. Looking on the forums I’d be happy at 150/160 a day for the full first fix plumbing, tiling and second fix plumbing. If the owner here doesn’t want to renegotiate a new day rate/price for the works I’ll be looking to find some work elsewhere it seems👌

That seems Very fair, I suppose it might Also depend on how much work you do for each day, I know a friend got a tradesman in quoted per day for laying floors not tiles, and he took that long, she felt he was moving in🤣, I prefer to have a rough idea of how many days a job would take if working on a daily basis. Some people can Be greedy my boss who was getting house renovated got quite a bit of work done, as found a few guys on furlough there rate for labouring was from£150 a day providing it was cash

I work with rapid set adhesive most of the time, so working slow isn’t really an option😂 I wouldn’t say I’m the fastest worker out there but I’d say I have a happy medium between quality and quantity of tiles bedded, the bathroom I started yesterday has high ceilings and I’m onto the last 6 tiles for the walls to be done

You not local to north east 😀 have a job that needs doing, it’s no good killing yourself but seriously though the floor layer took for ever, cost her a fortune in the end, daily rate sounded attractive at the start
