Floor tiling £360 plus materials, but no idea on what materials without knowing what the floor currently is and what condition etc and also what the tiles are going to be, porcelain, ceramic or nat stone.

You don't say what area the splashbacks are going to be, what obstructions there is, are there just a few sockets to cut round or is there like 12 or summit, also is there going to be a cookerhood etc etc etc etc.

sorry, about 4 sockets,in kitchen, just under cooker hood to tile, no sockets in utility room just tiles about 4 high (4x4) she's bought the mats, but she went to b&q & got the tubbed gear for floor & walls, as we all know tubs is only 4 walls!
floor straight through with 33x33 slate/porcelain tile:mad2:

hope this helps better:thumbsup:

20 M2 of Slate or porcelain tiles, hmm youd be looking at 30-40 per M2 so anywhere between £600 - £800 surely for the floors alone.

If its slate youd be on for a bit sealing and sorting for thickness etc etc.Ive not done any slate yet so Im sure some of the more experienced guys would help but for porcelain I'd be looking for £30 per mt2. Although saying that if is was nice and level etc and square then I can lay a good amount of floor tiles in a day.

At the end of the day its what you weant to earn for it. IF it was me just starting out as I am Id charge around £650 for floors and walls to be competitive.

Explain what you need to do.

You need to grade the tiles by thickness, laying the thinnest in the least trafficked areas and building the adhesive up under the thinner tiles so they are at the same level as the thicker tiles etc.

you need to seal them before fitting, again before grouting and after grouting. If you are a clean worker of course you can just lay them and then seal before you grout, and then again after grouting.

All cuts must be done on a wet cutter. the blades cost money.

It takes longer to do the cuts.

If it isnt done properly the grout and adhesives will stain the tiles, or the floor wont be level if they arent graded first.

If she wants it done cheaper than that then let her get someone in and charge her a fortune when she calls you out to remove adhesive and grout stains from the slate tiles.

Dont back down. Just qualify what you have to do.

Tell her this story.

My cousin before I started tiling got someone in 'on the cheap ' to lay her kitchen in slate tiles, he did a not too bad job laying them mind, good setting out etc.

However the dosy plonker proceeded to grout without sealing the tiles, and grouted in the normal fashion i.e just spreading the grout all over the place.

he then cleaned up got his money and left.

Needless to say the grout ended up in every ridge and line etc and although she didnt see it when it was just cleaned as soon as it dried it became very apparent.

took her 3 weeks of washing and washing and scrubbing to get it clean.

also to add to the extra work involved, when your grouting slate its better to squeeze the grout into the spaces with a grout bag rather than just spreading the whole lot over. Bit like an icing bag.

If she still grumbles at the price then honestly mate,.... walk away!!! dont do it for less than you deserve
