any advice??

i just been made redundant in ma job of 8 years doing glazing and now i am really lookin into go into tiling!!
here is ma problem i am stuck between 3 courses which is chase,pts,and careers ess,its a lot of money but its worth it its somethin i really want to do and i am going to put ma heart and soul into it,am 25 and feel i will b successful,if anyone has done these courses and there success rate could they give me there feedback but pts warrington is ma fav the now!!thanks to anyone who reads this and was in the spot i am the now thanks

You can any course and it will depend on you what you get out of it, The course is only the first step it will cost time and money at first but with no return you need to be positive and do as much as you can to promote yourself, say you have £3000 to start trading you will need tools (£400) a van (£850 ish) working float (£300) that will leave £1450 for advertising (you will need this ) I know 4 people who went on courses and then went back to there old jobs, 3 of them are trying to start again part time weekends only but the jobs they can do are only small as no one wants there bathroom done in bits. THINK before you do anything make sure you are willing to put a lot more in to it than just a course.

I was about the same age as you when i broke into tiling and i'm still at it overs 17yrs later.... so you go for it mate and good luck.....dave...

I did the course at Chase mate, first class! I live in Atherton not far from Manchester and decide to go to the Chase course 70ish miles away as I thought it was the best around.

Give them a ring and organise to go in and view the workshop/meet the tutors.

I have been going for a couple of months and am doing quite well. I am also in touch with 3 lads that did the same course as me and they are all doing well also.

I read something (on this forum I think) that put me off PTS in warrington. You should search for threads on theat course and see if you can get some more info before you part with your well earned cash.

Best of luck mate. As long as you plan ahead and are realistic you can do well. It won't come easy, believe me! You really have to work very hard to get yourself going.

Did the PTS course in Warrington just before Easter (4 wks) found it very worth while but also hard work - there is much more to it (tiling) than I realised. I have done lots of leg work with card drops to initiate my first few jobs and things are starting to happen but I find that I am working long hours for my income, though I am in an area where tilers are much sought after so my pricing will be "developing" quite quickly.

I find it's taking me much longer initially to complete work than I first thought, as being a 1 man band, the follow up ancilliery stuff to the actual tiling - cleaning your work as you go along, keeping your tools and equipment and not least, the customers property clean is very time consuming. The work doesn't generally finish when you get home at the end of the day either, more cleaning, administration and research for prices and other jobs is important also.

Not that I am trying to put you of, the job satisfaction when you have finished the work and then get your money - and usually praise form the customers is very gratifying.

Give it a go but go in with your eyes open. Best of luck.
