Hi all. I'm thinking about booking onto the Tiling course with NETT. I wonder if there's anyone in the yorkshire area who would be willing to take me on to help out after I completed the course? A bit of background on me - after finishing sixth form I attended Leeds building college and gained my NVQ level 2 in plumbing. I worked with my dad for a while plumbing afterwards but unfortunatly the business didn't take off due to recession etc etc. Since then I have been working in the security industry (im 25 now) but I really want to get back into trade working, but thought about specialising in tiling this time around. If anyone would be interested in taking me on please give me a shout, im realiable and hardworking and wouldn't be looking for much money. Thanks!

Welcome along to TF big_joe. When you have completed your course start by doing small jobs for your family and friends, this will help build your confidence. You may struggle to find anyone to take you on full time at the moment due to the recession and your lack of experience. Anyway, all the best with the new venture and don't forget if there is anything you are unsure of or, if ever you need advice on anything tiling related, we are only a few taps of a keyboard away

I did a six week course and that was after being in building nine years and honestly i wish i had done my apprenticeship as a tiler and not as a stonemason. The short courses are great and all but its just a few weeks of practise before being thrown into the real world without much of a clue as to what you're doing. i've just spent the last year of my life working 80 hours a week for not a lot of money just cos I dont know how to approach different things efficiently. Experience is worth so so so much. Honestly it is possible but trust me its really really really really hard. I'd jump all over YTS' offer of on site learning. Either way mate good luck, you're certainly in the right place, I'd be out of business if it wasn't for this website and the incredibly helpful guys and gals!
