Anyone ever seen a water level?

Working with some Portugese guys on a job in some changing rooms and they showed me how to find the level in several different rooms using some copper pipe filled with water.

They called it a water level, its basic hydraulics really but really did the trick finding a true level.

Anyone ever use this on a regular basis?

Not for many years but its a great tool. It does take 2 to get it working well...not impossible with one though.
Just make sure you have no air bubbles in.

Not for a very long time.
Used to use them when I worked with for my Dad.
They were great for marking out places like public toilets where you have lots of cubicles and corridors.

No doubt he still has one.

i learnt at colloge that the water level was the best thing going but ive never seen anyone use one

got one and use it for staffing out compexed shape floors during setting out. you cant send a lazer round corners yet!. it is a 2 man job, though i once did a floor by clamping one end to the wall and the other end to a staff with a datum mark on it.

I've used waterlevels several times on larger jobs, where lasers haven't been practical for various reasons. You can get away with a simple waterfilled (flexible) transparant tube and a permanent marker, but if you feel like expanding your toolbox, check out the "hose water level" about 2/3 down on this page.

I've heard about them and know how they work, but never seen one in use or used one. If i ever get a job where I would need one then i will invest..

Yes m8 got one and I use it on big jobs its better than any laser level.

i have to disagree old chap
i wouldnt swop my lazer for a gold clock

i ran a datum around large office block last week
reset 4 times and it was spot on
now with a 50ft w/l you wouldnt be so lucky

Used one once, paid £16 quid for it and worth every penny for that particular job.
