Hi there,

I am currently re-doing a bathroom that is in a dormer. This means that the ceiling slopes down at about a 45 degree angle from the normal ceiling height (2.3m) to about 1.5m and it is this slope that I need to tile. What is the best way to do this and ensure that the tiles stay on the sloping ceiling and don't end up on the floor ?

thanks

Richard

Hi and welcome to tilersforums.com

It's do able, no problem, but, what tiles are you fixing and what is the ceiling substrate ?

Thanks Alan.

The tiles are white ceramic wall tiles (600 x 300) and the ceiling is plasterboard that's been skimmed and given a single coat of paint (50/50 mix of emulsion and water).

Is there a particular type of tile adhesive I should use ?

You have one, possibly more problems, your plasterboard should have been left bare, bare plasterboard can hold more weight than skimmed board, also and this is the BIG one, the paint will have to come off, all of it, scrape it, wash it or sand it, but it has to come off.

Now depending on the thickness of your tiles, you may have to remove the skim, remove all the board and re-board, or over board. Below is a table of weights according to thickness of tile.

6mm Ceramic......... ..14.26 kg/m2 .....................................18.46 kg/m2
8mm Ceramic ...........17.62 kg/m2 .....................................21.82 kg/m2
10mm Ceramic ..........20.97 kg/m2 ....................................25.17 kg/m2
12mm Ceramic ..........24.32 kg/m2 ....................................28.52 kg/m2
