i dont know if its changed now but it was a points system where you paid full price and they sent you out a cheque for your discount once a year

interest rates were high at the time and it was cheaper for me to leave my money in the bank than let them earn interest on itfor a year before sending it to me

my duchess recieved a voucher as part of a promotoin for car insurance

we needed a new loo seat , she gave me the voucher and I went in tutted at the prices for the rubbish they were selling and picked the best one I could find

they refused the voucher even though it had B&Q written across it

I went to my local plumbers merchant and told him about it

after he had finished laughing he sold me a good quality seat for a fiver

he wouldnt take the voucher either:lol:

I know a lot of you hate B&Q but I have to say I love the place I am like a big kid in a toy store, i would'nt ask for advice in there though but if you know your stuff and dont need bad advice the place is a aladins cave, a few weeks ago I was in tops looking for a bucket trowel they never had one, the guy there said why not try screwfix across the road I got all exited got the directions and shot over there to have a good a good look at all the goodies on offer, I was well disapointed to find its like argos just a few catalogues and the stuff gets brought up from the warehouse gutted, anyway decided to go to B&Q got to the section where the bucket trowel was, man there where hundreds of different trowels for different jobs i did'nt know you got so many diffrent trowels. The wife hates going there with me as much as I hate clothes shopping with her, I get lost in the world of DIY and start making mental lists of all the tools I need and all the jobs I could do, also there are bargains to be had if you know what your doing like the off the shelf bathroom and kitchen stuff, they do have the overpriced stuff too but that does not interest me and the small stuff like screws, handles, hinges, ect they overcharge for as I said you just have to know what's what with prices. I just dont understand why a lot of you guy's slate the place I supose its like the asda of DIY.....Alby

you do know BanQ and screwfix are the same company

Which is why I’ve gone off screwfix since kingfisher bought them, ruined a perfectly good trade mail-order company!

The fact screwfix is supposed to be 'where the trade buys' is laughable, It was 10 years ago one of my favourite suppliers and I do use it from time to time but the trade counters are far outweighed by general public not really sure what they want and the staff are not trained to assist them. (I know the trade counters are a Kingfisher addition)

I went in to screwfix and bought 2 pairs of budget Makita drills (one for me, one for one of the guys) I happened to find myself in B&Q a few days later and saw the same drills for £20 cheaper, so I bought 2 more drove round the corner and sold them back to screwfix!

jolly fix

the one good thing about B&Q,is being able to return items ,friend of a friend asked if i could plumb a washing machine in for them, they live about 8 miles from a village ,23 to a town (shops etc).not knowing what pipe size/type of trap etc to buy, bought loads of diff sizes used the one which fitted took the rest back.saves on extra trip back to shop etc.asked manager about doing this sort of thing years ago no prob she said.i use toolstation or the net ( so cheap)for tools etc,B&Q £1.00 buckets are ok .price on most things there way to expensive, there are bargins to be had, bought shower there the other week for £63.00,all other places (screwfix etc) £126.00.so its always worth a good look around there now and again.
