Backer board question

Hi,

I'm looking for advice on fixing some hardibacker board onto the floor of a shower cubicle. The hardibacker board is being installed to give an added layer of protection to the particle board subfloor. A steel shower tray with frame and feet will then sit on the backer board.

The particle board subfloor has been painted with eggshell paint, what I want to find is what treatment / priming is necessary before fixing the layer of backer board using BAL flexible adhesive?

Need to remove that paint I think.
If it's eggshell then it should just peel off the floor.
After removal prime floor & glue & screw your Hardie..

Ok thanks Steph, I'm just wondering if a really strong bond between the particle board and the adhesive is that critical given that gravity will be holding everything in position? I've just tried removing some of that eggshell and it's proving more than a little stubborn to say the least

Why hardibacker? It's not waterproof unless tanked you know?

Had some hardi left over. Guess it will probably pay to tank the hardie before putting the tray down then?

I wouldn't tank it as you have a shower tray going in,
Over kill in my opinion but it won't do any harm if you do tank it..
