Bad condition wall preparation

Ok, I'm sorry if this has already been mentioned but i couldnt find this exact problem!

I have just about finished stripping some old tiles off a bathroom wall. Over some quite large areas, the wall under the tiles is just bare render that is not in good condition and needs levelling/covering with something before i can consider tiling it.

What products does anyone recommend? I have looked at Bal quickset render and thistle multi-finish plaster so far but don't know if either would be suitable.

Any help would be grateful!!

And how bad are the walls. Any real bad areas need to be made good before but you also have the option if you have the room of dot and dabbing boards.

if the rest of the walls are in good condition, then i would pva the bits that need patching and use a one coat plaster to patch it up....if all the walls are bad you could dot and dab new plasterboard over the whole wall..

well, I would say they aren't good.

The darker specs you can see in the picture are were its down to the blockwork.

thats not render mate it looks like old sand lime mortar,id knock off and dryline(dot and dab)

If i didn't dryline it, do you think it would be OK to give a coat of one coat plaster though? Presumably I would need to PVA it first - does anyone recommend any specific brand or just any?

i wouldnt onecoat plaster a patch never mind a full wall,its pants

seriously mate if you are a diyer drylining it is easy as making a brew,and it will be flat as a pancake

if the render is stuck tight you can just use rapidset ardex or mapei etc and make the wall good.Let it dry and then tile. I have never had a problem doing this.You can use a feather edge or batton and float it into the patches..but use a proper primer

I would dot and dab, it is the easiest and quickest solution to that problem I reckon.

i would aproach this by dot and dabbing the wall as well,quickest route correctly done so you do not have to wait on plaster drying as well
