Bal Sbr Over Painted Wall

am tiling a en suite tomorrow and the walls painted, tried scraping as I usually take it back to plaster but this paint will not come off. I use bal sbr for primer what mix do u recommend if priming at all

Have you tried some good sticky tape, leave on for 10 minutes then remove.

What paint is it...emulsion, vinyl silk or oil based.

i recently used wallpaper steamer and 4 inch scraper. clean wall up to plaster and paint comes off like skin in one go. i dont know if i m allowed to do so....

Think it's just emulsion but it's well up there. Just thinking about hitting it with 80grit and tile straight

But if the paint is up that good would it be that bad to go over?

bit like tiling over existing tiles. Less time taken, everyone's happy if tiles stay there, your bad name if they don't.

Thing is I never tile over tile

This is what can happen if u plaster/tile over paint.
The first time I saw this room it was part tiled and with a couple of painted walls , the second, striped and re plastered. It had dried for 6 weeks, so far as I was aware, all was good!
One coat of primer later and this happened.

As u can see I hadn't even finished priming! Far left of pic is original plaster, brown stripey bit above shaver is paint! Right and top of pic, new plaster! They had plastered over paint, couldn't make out if the stripes were dirty PVA or just dirty water. Whichever way, it did not bond!

So the new plaster was removed fairly easily.

Then the paint behind, and this is how a lot of it came off!!!!!

Not saying this applies to your situation, however, this is what can happen.
Just be aware.

As marc, similar type of thing but this was a newly skimmed wall left to dry...pulled a tile off and plaster had'nt even been pva'd prior to skimming.

See a product today I'd not seen before bizarely, it was green in colour and was like a slurry coat painted on the wall over paint, spread said it was so that the new skim would adhere to the paint. Would it be something called 'bond it'?
Can u tell me anymore about it?

Yes thats what it's called but the trouble is it's no good for dusty surfaces, you would have to prime with sbr/pva first.

Oh ok, but only good for a skim coat, not tiles then?
