BAL sharpens focus on hygiene via new look for antibacterial range
Building Adhesives Limited [BAL], the UK’s leading supplier of professional tiling grouts and adhesives, has responded to growing interest in effective antibacterial protection technology. BAL is the only manufacturer in the tiling sector that is licensed to incorporate Microban® antibacterial protection into its UK grout products. Now BAL has given an eye-catching new look to its full range of antibacterial tile grouts, sealants and cleaning products.
BAL’s Head of Technical Services, Dave Wilson, says that there is increasing awareness of the value of this protection: “That’s not just for health and hygiene, but also because there are important associated visual benefits for tiled interiors. These can be easily overlooked until the risk turns into a visible problem.”
Effective prevention of mould and bacterial build-up is the answer to both hygiene and aesthetic issues. The company points out that, in wet and humid environments, microbes can double in quantity every twenty minutes, leading to build-up of mildew, mould and potentially unhealthy bacteria.
Unsightly black mould (or Aspergillus niger) can also develop, causing staining and odours on sealant and grout surfaces as well potential health hazards. According to a survey* commissioned by Halifax plc, this can be one of the most significant factors to deter potential house-buyers.
This major benefit of the Microban® content has been demonstrated in specific testing of BAL Microcolour antibacterial coloured grouts. These results showed sustained effectiveness against 99% of all known bacteria – including E-coli, Salmonella and Listeria.
