BAL super flex discolouration

Had a pull from a customer today on a job I did before xmas..grey super flex grout has very slight dark patches. nothing outrageous just here and there..deffo not adhesive in the joints..The whole floor was grouted outta the same mix from the same bag..just wondered if y'all have had anything similar?? i know I've had bags before that have given me problems where they've been 'cured' by the air .. but never discoloured..any thoughts welcome!

I refuse to use it...I have shading every time with it.. and limestone as well .. oh and charcoal.. the rest of the colours are fine...

This is why i switched to mapei ultra colour.. no probs now.

luckily they supplied..which kinda got me off the hook..I prefer mapei myself, I hate being stumped when someone asks you a question as to why somethings happened tho!! I can't figure how it could have patches of darker pigment from one mix!:incazzato:

i find with bal grey grout i need to leave it until it's nearly solid before washing it of,it's a pain in the backside,but if not then i get the patchy effect

Happened a couple of times with me and are numerous mentions on the forum about it.

gotta go pick my money up tommorow for a bathroom i finished in grey superflex yesterday,so ill take alook

the white ultraclour on the walls was lookin patchy,im hoping thats gone when i get there......

I'd love to see how the BAL guarantee holds up... usually they're pretty slick at worming out of it if you have problems. I grouted a floor a couple of years back where the pack had 'air cured' before delivery and the lot went back to powder. I got in touch and sent them the bill for re-grout labour..got a letter back saying 'although we try to ensure the highest standards..etc...from time to time etc...'
..and a free bag of grout..who says they're too big to care?! ha ha ha!:lol:

efflorescence is salt migration... so not that

Bals polymer grouts have had shading probs for a while now...and they do pass the buck...

I see, thought it could have been a leak under the floor causing efflorescence. Stains the grout a dark grey/black. I dont use BAL but I will remember that for the future.

Thank you... I just thought it was worth a mention as Jamie B had only said 'dark patches' doesnt paint a very clear pic in my mind. I was only asking if ther was 'Any chance of efflorescence'. :smilewinkgrin:

just the odd 3-4cm sized darker patches in the grout in random areas of the floor..no specific concentration anywhere, the substrate was a new screed which had been fully cured.
