Hi guys just finished tiling my shower with bal whitestar, How long do you guys give it before grouting (bal microban) on the tub it says up to 3 days ?

Once finished do you really have to wait 2 weeks before using the shower?

Also is microban grout generally accepted as a good grout for shower areas?

Im really happy with the finish and would appreciate any answers on the above

Cheers fellas

A lot depends on the substrate and tile size Andy. if they are up to about 200 x 200 onto plasterboard then you can grout after 16hrs. Anything bigger and the adhesive takes longer to dry.

BAL say 2 weeks before using the shower because of BS. If you use it earlier and there is a failure they will not be liable.

Thanks guys, I have used large tiles so will give it a week before grouting and then another week after that to comply with bals 2 weeks.

Do you grout between the shower tray and tiles then Silicon or just Silicon between the 2.

Also once the grout is in does it need sealing? (bal microban)

Thanks for the help

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE FOR BAL WHITE STAR...

1 BAL-WALL WHITE STAR is non-slip, eliminating the need for

battens. Spread the adhesive at a thickness of about 3mm over no

more than 1 sq.m. at a time, using a suitable BAL NOTCHED
TROWEL for dry areas, and the BAL THIN-BED SOLID- BED
TROWEL for wet areas e.g. showers.

2 Press the tiles firmly into the adhesive ribs with a slight twisting
action.

3 Occasionally lift a tile as work progresses to check that adequate

contact is maintained between the tile, adhesive and background. For
dry areas this must be at least 50%. For wet areas it is important not
to leave voids beneath the tiles.

4 Fix tiles within 20 mins (@ 20°C) of spreading the adhesive. If in

doubt, check the exposed adhesive ribs. If adhesive does not stick to
your fingers it must be removed from the wall and fresh adhesive
applied.

5 Leave at least 2mm joints between tiles, unless self - spacing tiles

are used.

6 Before adhesive sets, remove surplus adhesive from the tiles and

joints with a clean damp cloth.

7 Do not use in cold (less than 5°C) or damp conditions.

8 Allow the adhesive 24 hours to dry before grouting. If the background

is impervious (e.g. existing tiles) the setting time will be extended and
grouting should be delayed for at least 3 days. Use BAL-GROUT
(powder), or BAL-SUPERGROUT/ BAL-EASYPOXY (both
waterproof) in wet areas. Use BAL-EASYPOXY on worktops or other
areas in contact with food.

9 Seal gaps between tiled surface and baths/shower trays with a

suitable BAL Sealant.

10 After grouting, shower areas should be left to dry for at least 2 weeks
before use as detailed in BS 5385: Part 4:1992, clauses 6.3 and 6.4.
