Bathroom Floor Surface

I am about to tile a bathroom floor which has a laminate floor surface, can I tile over this covering or must I remove it back to the floorboards.???

Laminated with paint type stuff which have now become part of floor and could not be scratched easily.

you also cant tile onto the floorboards,floor must be removed then over boarded with something appropriate to your floors requirements

Laminate flooring being what's called a "floating floor", unless you want floating tiles, remove it.

Thanks to all. Now i am clear and can focus on one point i.e. i should remove it first. Once again thanks to all.
