I Loooooooooooooove Pictures. Even foggy ones.

I've just added you to the Professional Tilers usergroup. So you get access to some decent threads in the Tilers Forums Arms. I know it might be a bit too early but I think you'd benefit from some of the topics.

Nice window set out - perfect infact.

I guess you used tile nippers to nip the tile away to fit around your basin template? How did you find that?

As for the foggy photos, i used my old mobile phone to take the pics so off bad quality. Thanks Dan for adding me to the Professional Tilers usergroup, still maybe early days but suprising how much i have learnt from reading the forums with other peoples problems etc.

As for cutting around the basin template, i was taught to use a card template then to transfer the curve on to the tile and use a wet cutter to cut lines up to the curved line then snap them off, then tidy up with the nippers and tile file. Sorry i havent described the method i used very well.

Thanks for all the comments:thumbsup:

Re: Bit of an Update (5th may)

Thought i would try keep this thread going and keep it updated. Just to show a few pictures from college as i progress on the course. Here is a picture from saturday, it was our first attempt at experimenting with patterns.

I know the cuts around the socket could have been a bit better, but looked fine when tried with a faceplate. Any comments welcome.

You need to practise those sockets. Not that it wouldn't look right once the faceplate is on, there's just no excuse to get them wrong using a wet cutter. But as you say, it's all a learning curve and you're still learning.

I'm not much for the pattern personally. It looks a bit like the crazy stairs painting / photo. But the neatness of it is spot on, and that's what you're looking for I suppose.

Where are you training at mate? Fancy leaving some feedback in the feedback forum about the place / course?

So this is day 5 then? Not bad after 20 hours training. Are the others on the course doing the same sort of stuff?

Re: Bit of an Update (5th may)

Yeah i aggree that i need to practice cuts round the socket, as was my first attempt. The pattern isnt exactly pleasing to the eye lol, but just wanted to practice fixing the diagonal cut tiles a bit more. My course is at West Herts College. So far im very happy with the course and learn something new every time. Thanks for advice and comments.

I must be honest... Judging from the pictures, I've seen worse results from tilers who've been at it for 20 years...

Btw, are all standard sockets over there on that island of yours square?

Over here, the face plates tend to be square, but the sockets/coupling boxes (or whatever you call them) themselves are round with a diameter of 72mm (standard ones atleast).
I'll try to remember posting a picture some time...
