bitumen tar on floor

:huh2: I have a floor to tile but the problem is it is concrete but the tiles have been down that long there is like a bitumen/ tar on the floor so my question is do I scrap the floor with a heat gun and scraper and try and get It clean or do I put a self levelling screed down over it the floor Is 30m2 any advices is very welcome

How thick is the bitumen ?

do the tiles snap when you lift or try to break them, I mean snap not bend

The customer has removed the tiles so not sure what they break like or snap
There is about 2mm - 3mm of bitumen left on the floor

If you really want to level/screed it you will need a latex based one. If your going to tile girectly any good flexy rapidset will do fine done lots of it.

arditex slc is the one to use over bitumen

would be advisable to wash the bitumen with a degreaser, prime with bal bond sbr and tile with a flexi rapid-set.........if it is too uneven to tile then as mentioned use a latex leveller....

hi jim mate use it neat........sometimes i mix the bal bond with adhesive and apply a slurry coat over the top...just brush it on...

Phoned tops tiles today to get a price on B A L S B R primer was told it is £50.00 for five litters and it covers 1.5m2 I need 14 tub off the stuff £700 the customer will sh*te there sells when I tell them

WOW...you can get it cheaper than that jim...plus 5ltrs will cover around about 20mtrs plus.. if applied with a small radiator roller ( sponge type )...or a brush...thats on bitumen..if its onto a porous type substrate like concrete or plaster then you can water it too 4-1 ratio...and it goes further....

Though that was pricey Dave if it was that expensive it would be cheaper to use flexi self leveller that was only £30 a bag
