bouncy floor

Hi guys not been tiling for a while but starting to pick up jobs lately, question is have10m2 kitchen floor to do, 600×300 porcelain its a new buld house and the floor is bouncing in certain parts of kitchen, I have never had to deal with a floor this bad before and could do with some advice, we are going to take units out and lift old 22mm toung and groove flooring and would like some advice on what to put back down , ie 18 or25mm ply not had any experiance srengthening and leveling joists before so grateful for any advice cheers.

You can put some noggings in and double joists in the middle of the floor. You can use 18mm ply in brick pattern fix it with screws and no more nails to joist then you can overboard with 6mm hbb and you shoukd be ok. But wait for others advice

Thanks mate that was helpfull, trying to keep height down he wants level access from living room to kitchen do you think 18 mm ply would be strong enough?

It should be fine. You can use that t&g boards if you will manage to lift them up without braking and then you can overboard with 6mm hbb
whats the distance between joists? And what size they are and whats the span ?

If you are going to all the bother of lifting the entire floor, for the little extra cost I would use 22mm or 25mm ply, fix plenty of noggins, and screw and glue everything. gorilla glue or similar type of expanding glue will set rock solid. Then 6mm HBB or similar. This is only 9mm higher than existing.

It's a new build house with old tounge and groove boards !
No bounce and no deflection is the order of the day so plenty of work needed to the joists .

The house is around 6 years old , is the best way to level ply on joists to place wooden shims on ioists and place a level on top to make sure level or is there a way to use a lazer.

Depends how far out the floor is, if you have access to a table saw you can cut tapered shims to any length. Work from the high point. Lasers are good but you can't beat the simplicity of a string line and straight edge.

Ok chalker thanks, but it is ok to place shims ontop of joists and then lay ply over the top to get level.

Bounce...? .. this IMO sounds like a floating floor..? is it deffo on joists.?

There is lino over it at this point so not sure just going by what guy has said, there is a bad bounce when you come in door and in middle of floor it has bad movement around a access hatch, if it is a floating floor will the 22mm flooring just be sitting on top of insulation without joists?

Yes... that will be the case .. if there are no fixings in the chipboard , that will indicate a floating floor.

Then you would have to add joists and dwangs to floor then lay ply over them and maybe some backer boards.

You cannot joist a floating floor.. but you can remove said floor and frame it out.

If its not a floating floor , once the old flooring has been taken up is it ok to youse wooden shims screwed to joists to level floor?

It is yes as long as it is solid..

Cool, looks like answers have been provided. But if it were me, and I had so many questions, I wouldn't be looking to provide a service that I'm not right sure about. There's making a floor sound for tiling.. and there's sorting out a bouncy castle floor that I've not got a clue about. IMO.

Thats why I am asking quetions to learn, and as I mentioned I have a freind who is a joiner he is mainly going to be dealing with the sructure of floor and I am going to tile, we all have to learn somewhere.
