Hi guys, I've done a few brick slip jobs for a builder that I tile for and enjoy the work, but he gets one of his brickies to point the job once I've finished. But I've picked up a couple of my own brick slip jobs recently and would like to point them up myself, but have never done so & would appreciate any advice regarding mix ratios of sand & cement & the use of a plasticiser & preferred tools would be really helpful.
(the jobs are inside by the way). Thanks.

I did this last year. I used a pointing gun and a brickies pointing tool, it wasn’t overly tricky but you need to work as clean as you can. I used a pointing mortar specifically for the job.

For internal pointing job ( as described) l personally would go with a 1:1:6 mix, cement, lime, sand mix , more working time and more flexiable than just cement/sand. You can add a plasticiser, however, if you use mastercrete with the hydrated lime you may not need a plasticiser. For tooling the joints , first time a 12mm half round jointing tool is perhaps easiest. Personally l prefer a recessed square point). depending on the areas involved it can be quite a tedious job. Good luck whichever way you chose.
