A couple of things have happened recently. Firslty I thought I would mention I completed this work for free but would be interested to know how you guys handle repairs etc.

Finished a bathroom. Week later man of the house decides to change the basin and hangs a new one. New basin to heavy really for and the weight cracks two tiles where its pulling down on them. It either needed a ped or better fixings to the wall.

I took basin off replaced tiles and he got a plumber to refit correctly. From my point of view it was an hours work = ish

Another customer has new bath fitted which being a different size showed some of the ply. I took 3 cuts up, relaid full tiles to fill gap. again not long, in and out.

DO you guys charge for minor repairs or alterations? DO you have a call out charge?

hello ,if i have done a job and the customer breaks a tile i generally go and replace free of charge as a one off as hes a customer,,if its a small repair that takes a few hours then charge for your time ...work out an hourly rate that nmakes it worth leaving the house but is also reasonable

you should charge as it's your time but that said if the original job was quite a few quid and i liked the customer then I have been back and made alteration for free before. Purely to keep in the good books and make them more likely to either recommend or hire us again.

true words spoken

i replace a tile on a floor they had chipped, took 5 mins to dig out, had a brew and a bacon sarnie and finished it, didnt charge as made a few quid off it and was local,

I think the same as what's said above a few times and you said yourself in the first sentence. It's a customer, and it's such a small job, probably even if they lived miles away but you earned well on the original job, I'd do it FOC.

If it was a new call-out type scenario, I'd be giving a call-out charge to the customer before leaving the house. And I hope that goes without saying to the GP.
