Hi there! I have just joined and I'm not yet very familiar with this forum, so bear with me! My question for you all is: can one paint over floor tiles? I have in the bathroom (with underfloor heating) small (10x10cm), dark grey, matt tiles....horrible! I would like to paint them white if possible, but I have heard negative opinions on this, searching through the internet.....is it really not recommendable?? not even with a floor paint (then again the surface is glazed, I think)? I really didn't want to re-tile, but the grey is very depressing....
Any advice?
thanks!

Hi guys! Thanks for your honest replies.... I guess it was wishful thinking! :mad2: I just don't know how to tell my husband...he's not very keen on the upheaval...and the house is one year old....I don't know why they thought that grey and white were such fashionable colours.....:huh2: I'm based in Lohja, Finland and it's not easy to find good tilers at reasonable prices....I guess I'll have to do it myself if I can convince my hubby that I can do it!

thanks again!....

I am not sure this is entirely correct. But what about trying a 2 pack floor paint ? It's the type of stuff used to paint warehouse floors with forklift trucks driving over it. We used it on a warehouse and you add the hardener to it and apply it with a 18" roller. It's stinks a bit whilst the hardener is going off, but once set it's rock hard. It needs minimum preparation as the hardener is so effective at adhesion.
The stuff is called Promastic 600 CT by Manor and I am told it's OK for glazed tiles but not for Quarry type tiles. However the choice of colours is limited. Usual colours like dark Green Red & Grey come to mind immediately.
Go to NWE Paints Ltd Promastic 600 CT
for more technical info........

Hi Wirralpaul! thanks for the tip. I think you probably are talking about epoxy resin based paints. I am aware of them...but very complicated ....messing about with two components...I wish there was something simpler, and as you say, I have to check if they have white....they should....also to these epoxy paints you can add "flakes" and make the surface non slip and the flakes come in many different colours...I know a chap here in Finland that does this job for living...just applying epoxy paints to industrial floors, garages, etc. they have different tipes and some are indeed very strong and resist acids, chemicals etc...but they are not very nice to breathe in, as you can imagine! I just wanted to use something simpler, but I guess I cannot choose! Thank you again for your tip!
