Cheap Solution....Tile over Tiles?

hi all,

I need a cheap solution for my small bathroom. Could I tile over my existing tiles? or do u think I should remove, which means I will not always have a flat surface. I was thinking about tile paint but the reviews I have read are not great. any ideas? wall is 6ft by 5 ft.

the only extra cost is your time, still paying for tiles and adhesive. Take them off, fill any holes in, and away you go

assume you have a plaster wall bunny or is it plasterboard?

I have one stud wall and 2 supportin walls with splasbacks on them. I have read that if I prep area white tile paint will work - what do u think? x

ok interesting lol,so you have kids......i wouldnt tile on tile,its not good practice but definate no no if you have kids in bath etc imo

painting over tiles,never a fan of this either and to be honest its going to be a short term solution especially in a water area

i would buy bumpy whites,remove the tiles and replace plasterboard,also skim wall if necessary and re tile

depends on your budget though bunny

deffinatly take the tiles off, ive tiled over tiles before for cheapness for sum customers on a social housing scheme but i wouldnt reccomemd it, especially if the walls only have splashbacks tiled, u will get two layers of tiles that is impossible to cover with trim and make look good, and just think of how proud u will be when u do it the right way and stand back and take a look.....deffinatly take em off, so much more rewarding, and u never know how well the old tiles have bonded to the wall.

bunny cd, before I give any input, would you be so kind as to let all the people that tried to help you in your previous dilemma, ie garage floor, know the outcome of that particular query??

The garage floor is a really long story. Great to hear from you again In a nutshell we decided to get the garage floor impressed with concrete as removing the garage floor was £2k and we were quoted £2.5k for impressed concrete for 40sqm. Sounds good right? Well we got totally ripped off and ended up paying £2k to this guy who did no work. Our own fault really for trusting a stranger. Then my hubbie lost his job and we were stuck, we had given £2k to a con man and had no decking because I sold this on ebay. Luckly we found a wonderful guy who finished it for us for a good price so it now looks amazing nice end to a bad situation. Lesson learnt = don't pay upfront

as you've been so kind to reply bunny....the answer is in the negative I'm afraid, take the existing tiles off, re board and start afresh

Thanks for advice, I can take them off fine but can you explain the plasterboard bit, do I put this over the wall. I might get a quote to get someone 2 do it to be honest

well tbh bunny, if you can get the tiles off without tearing holes in the existing substrate, that'll be fine to retile over.

I also go with remove and replace, you never know what nasty surprises you may find .....you will be glad you did.

if the budgets tight and you just want to brighten the area up paint them for now and then replace in the future. you will regret paying out for addy and tiles for tile on tile as in the end the lot will need to come off anyway
