Chlorinated rubber - lets see if anyone has come across this one before

We have a guy who wants to tile a pool. Thought he was doing himself a favour by waterproofing it with Chlorinated rubber.

Now all the adhesive manufacturers have said it can't be tiled until the paint is removed and other than sandblasting, I can't seem to find any other way of getting it off.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Should also point out, that it need to go back to bare render so that it can be coated with Mapelastic Smart and Mapenet

There is a paint stripper available that does it but usually over here they use an industrial steam cleaner ( diesel powered jet wash) and blast it off.

My fiend works at hss and they rent out the deisel powered hot wash, they can lift Tarmac off the pavement.

If you are cack handed with any tool they can make a mess!! But in answer to your question, yes, if used too vigorously it will remove the render as well.

Is it possible to scrape back a percentage of the film and then as PDC ,followed by a chemical stripper to remove the residue?

Chlorinated rubber paints are what they use on roads for while lines and yellow lines etc. They use a hot gas burner to remove them when they need to. I'm curious though to know why it can't be tiled on.

Because no ones tested their adhesive on it! Haha

The pool at the house I've been working at had been painted. They scraped and then jet washed which removed most of the paint then used Mapei Idrosilex Pronto before tiling.

My thoughts exactly. Only concern is that chlorides do affect Portland cement quite badly but I can't imagine there being free chloride ions in the paint...
