Consistence of mix ??

Hi all
Been using a powdered mix whilst tiling our hall. All has been good except the mixes are not always the same. Some stronger than others Just womdered how do you guys ensure you get a consistent mix or do you just guage everything by eye / vary depending on floor levels etc ?

Just get the feel for the mix, no measuring of water/powder ratios....

Maybe speak for myself here but I mix by eye, water first to stop powder sticking to the corners of bucket
Then mix marginally too thick as I find this breaks the lumps down better then add water to suit
There's a large tolerance with adhesives
U can go thicker to bed up on isolated areas or on a nice big flat area maybe slightly thinner for speed of troweling
But that is just my take on things

It's something that I've just got used to, don't even give it a second thought. The best way is to put the water in the bucket first, then slowly add the powder (whilst continuously mixing) until the desired consistency is achieved.

Figured that would be the case. I have been starting with a measured amount of water then adding powder & mixing /adding more powder or water depending on what it looked like

As a rule I find that it should be like mr whippy. Will keep its shape and stiffness but should stick to your finger when touched.

I have been adding mix to a bucket of water as well, but read somewhere that adding more water to an "over stiff" batch is not a good thing to do, is this really the case?
I've not ended up with a mix way too thick yet, but it's bound to happen at some point.

If the mix has started to go off some people would be tempted to add water to it to get it workable again but this mustn't be done, other than that dnt worry ;-)

dont worry to much about your mix. just remember if its to sloppy it wont take weight of tile and if its to ridgid it will not press down and may have a shorter working time. practice and chill.

Think is supposed to look like peanut butter but I gage by how the bucket spins when I take my feet away lol
