There's 39.37 inches or 3.28 feet to a meter, so you could just fiddle around with your feet a little and divide them by 3.28 to get meters, then in the usual way, width by height for square meters.

Linear border measurements change depending on the height of the border due to windows and doors and other objects in the room usually so try to overkill on the borders and get a couple too many and return a few to the shop or save a couple. It can be a nightmare the other way around with 2 borders short of your job.

the easiest way is not to measure in inches and measure in meters and multiply the lenght and the height and thats how many square meters you need plus waste, simple. The linear meter for borders, just measure with a tape all the way round a room, go to the tile shop and just tell them you need x meters of border, you might not know how long the border tile is so how can you calculate how many you need. 10 meters of border is 10 meters of border, doesnt matter how long the tile are. You are making life hard for yourself my friend.
