Customer question about fire adhesive

Hi,

Im going to be tiling a fire place for the first time in slate and the customer asked if i know what adhesive
to point the bricks on the inside of the fire with.

I would use Bal superflex.
I was going to suggest sand & cement but if it's easier using grout then I would go with the Bal.
Let's face it what is most grout made with?
Sand cement & additive....
