Cutting 1000mm x 330mm Wall tiles

Got a job coming up where the wall tiles are 1000mm x 330mm. Problem i have is my cutter is a Sigma 620mm. Has anyone used a small wet cutter to cut the long side of tiles this size. I think its going to be really difficult to balance a tile this size through the wet saw and get a neat cut. Any advice on cutting these huge tiles would be appreciated.

Depends what you mean about a small wet cutter .....How small ?

Hi Sir, i've got a standard small wet saw cutter which i just usually sit on floor. Its table is about 400 x 400.

My advice would be to hire a manual cutter big enough to cope or get a decent blade for your grinder (if you have one) and do it that way.

You can get several manual cutters for that size of tile such as the TX1200....

As above, a lot of places hire out the large manual cutters, the Rubi TX 1200 is a beast and shout make mince meat out of them. Failing that I would get a decent disk and use a grinder.

Where are you in the UK? Porcelanosa are one company that I know of that hire out the TX1200.

Bri. Phoned Porcelanosa and they have one which is out at moment and booked back out when back in. Brandon tool hire do the Rubi 12000 for £55/week. Think ill get that.

We used a small plasplugs wet cutter for that size of tile (porcelanosa) last year on a job, Was a bit of a nitemare but we got there & the edges were hidden with silicone. We tried to cut them free hand but it didnt work.
i would hire a manual cutter as you say.

If only a one off job, but a Rubi grinder blade ( red ) for porcelain ( assume they are porcelain ) around £35
Steady hand, make one good score with grinder along length, no need to cut all way through. Stand on end, tap back of tile with a hammer, up and down following score line. It should break after a few taps.
Use grinder to clean up edge.
Easy

Tip, you can use a wood batten on the tile to assist getting a straight line, put tile on floor, hold down batten with knee or foot.

if they're the porcelanosa ones like above on my cutter Nick, they're ceramic and really quite soft with a glaze that chips very easily if you use a grinder.

Ok, then the other method I have used is to clamp a batten to the tile and score using a tile scribe, then tap at back as before.
This was before i bought my long cutter.
If soft tile then should scribe easily
People so often forget the trusty tile scribe, always have one handy

Thanks Doug.... have done plenty of ceramic jobs just using tile scribe & nippers.
No grinder,no wet cutter,no rail cutter. Old school way, always handy to know, and a great sense of acheivement as well.

like already said above, if its the porcelonosa wall tiles, there are really soft and any half decent wet cutter will fly through them, try!
