in the bathroom I am doing its an ex council

the walls are bad ( pretty sure the council only employ monkeys )

house built in 50s
artex walls , then gone over countless times with fresh skim over the years.
this rules out hacking off for two reasons:

1. Artex
2. poured concrete wall

the only option is to d&d boards to the walls as is.
the walls are painted but i have gone berserk scoring them with an old chisel tonight
( looks like a maniac has been locked up inside )

in your opinion will this be sufficient to support:

d&d boards
tile addy
ceramic tiles ( full room height )

as the plasterer is due at 9am :yikes: and its only just occurred to me tonight about the paint
and i dont really fancy them falling off any time soon.

cheers andy

I thought of using some mechanical fixings to help support earlier
reassuring to hear it from a pro!

in your opinion d&d and screws too should be good enough then?

Yes! I use the metal hammer fixings.try a company called Jackoboard!

If your just using screws to hold plasterboard and if the head of the screw goes through the paper face then it's next to useless....

cheers havnt had the chance to do any dot n dabbing boards up yet.... mark what about when using drywall screws to attatch p.b to timber is that a no? ive done that a few times seems fine

Thats fine Ash but use course threaded screws which hold better to timber and again don't let the the screw head break through the paper face of the board...to add the screws should be 32mm.

sorry just read the last few posts, now I'm slightly confused..

once d&d to the wall and dry, i would use the fixings.

Andy, I take it you've used them before, how do you do it?

as my knowledge of PB is to have the screws just below surface to prevent trowel snagging
obviously with tiling its not quite the same as skimming
so are you able to leave the screw heads proud (as far in without breaking the paper)
and just apply your addy over the heads as normal?
