D&d Ceramics Saying Hello!

This tiling forum was recommended by a fellow tiler. Lots of info to be found. I'm looking for some advice on removal of a protective film on some polished porcelain floor tiles. This waxy looking film seems to on both sides of the tile and i'm concerned it may affect the bond of the adhesive! Any advice/info would be much appreciated---thanks nick..(D&D CERAMICS):huh2:

I know its wax.probably..but never had it on porcelain tiles....

you get it as protection between the tiles but not a film looks like its been done with a large glue gun

Thank's for the replies fella's! but this protective film is very thin and gives the polished tile a matt appearance. It can be removed with a stanley blade and I now know that the grouting process also removes this layer to reveal the polished effect. Our client bought these tiles over the net and there is no info on the packaging to contact the manufacturer! The underside of this tile also has more of a shiny appearence than any porcelain i've previously laid, which I think could prevent a good bond with the adhesive! I'll try and arrange a photo but any comment's you think may help will be much appreciated:mad2:

Hello Nick and welcome....it maybe a good idea maybe to scuff the backs up with sandaper to remove film and help give a key.....Gaz

Welcome to the forum.

Don't let the grouting process be the thing that gets rid of the film on the surface, it will only end up in the grout.

Never heard of a protection you need to get off with a stan though. That sounds weird. Where are the tiles from?

The origin of the tile was hard to find, due to lack of info on the box and the fact that they were bought online! But a bit of research online show's that they are imported from china by a company called Kingdom Industry and trade..ltd. I've heard some bad press about chinese porcelain, any views on this and/or the company??
